We all know that Christmas Eve is Santa’s big night—flying around the world, delivering gifts to children everywhere. But what many don’t realize is just how much preparation goes into making that magical night possible! Santa’s Christmas season starts well before December 24th, with months of hard work and planning at the North Pole. Let’s take a peek at what Santa does to get ready for Christmas.
Making the List and Checking It Twice
Santa’s most famous task is managing the “naughty or nice” list. This process is ongoing throughout the year, as Santa keeps track of children’s behavior. But as Christmas approaches, things get serious. He reviews his notes, consults with the elves, and makes sure the list is accurate.
By December, Santa has a massive database of children all over the world. He uses magic (and some help from the elves) to finalize his naughty or nice list. For those on the nice list, Santa starts matching them with the perfect gifts!
Overseeing the Workshop
At the heart of Santa’s Christmas preparations is his workshop, where his team of elves works tirelessly to build and wrap toys. The workshop is a bustling place, full of energy, music, and the sounds of hammers, sewing machines, and wrapping paper being cut. Santa oversees the entire operation, making sure production is on schedule.
Each elf has a specific role, whether it’s crafting wooden toys, assembling electronics, or hand-painting dolls. Santa works closely with his head elf, who helps manage all the different departments to ensure everything is running smoothly.
Gift Wrapping and Packing the Sleigh
Once the toys are made, they need to be wrapped and packed. Santa’s elves are experts in gift wrapping, making sure each present is beautifully packaged with colourful paper, bows, and ribbons. Santa himself supervises this final step to make sure everything looks just right.
Next comes the sleigh. Santa’s sleigh is no ordinary vehicle—it needs to carry millions of gifts in one night! The elves work hard to pack the sleigh in the perfect order so that Santa can easily grab each gift at the right stop. The sleigh also gets a checkup to ensure it’s ready to soar through the night sky.
Preparing the Reindeer
Santa’s reindeer are his trusty team, responsible for pulling the sleigh around the world. They spend much of the year resting and training, but as Christmas approaches, they kick their training into high gear. Santa and his elves make sure the reindeer are healthy, well-fed, and ready for the long journey.
Rudolph, with his famous red nose, leads the pack, while Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, and the rest of the team run through flight drills to ensure they’re ready for any weather conditions. They even practice landing on rooftops!
Checking Weather Reports and Maps
Santa doesn’t just rely on his magical sleigh to navigate the globe—he also prepares by checking weather reports. With snowstorms, rain, and wind to consider, Santa reviews maps and plots his course carefully to avoid any delays. His magical abilities help him, but a little planning never hurts!
Santa’s route is mapped out with the help of the elves, making sure he has the fastest and most efficient path to reach every home in one night. Thanks to time zone differences and a bit of Christmas magic, Santa is able to make it all happen!
Sending Christmas Letters
Despite all the hard work, hundreds of thousands of boys and girls get a Christmas letter from Santa each year. Santa takes the time to personalize each one often including words of encouragement and occasionally even an official notice that someone has made it to the Nice List!
Santa’s preparations for Christmas are no small feat! From writing thousands of Christmas letters to overseeing toy production and packing his sleigh, there’s a lot that goes into making Christmas magical for children around the world. But with help from the elves, reindeer, and Mrs. Claus, Santa is always ready to deliver joy on Christmas Eve!
